Review: A musical mash up of 70s Kinks and Gerry Rafferty on the new single from Shadow Captain; 'Home Is The Hero' (taken from soon to be released album 'Artifacts') has got a hypnotic laid back groove, creating both a whimsical and rootsy vibe! (Lemon Fire Brigade)
The next event - Shadow Captain’s last full show of the year - will take place on Friday 1st December at Prohibition Recording Studios, a lovely, intimate venue on Arrad Street, behind the Everyman. Special guests on the night will be Rob Clarke. Doors open at 7pm with the show starting at 8pm. Tickets are £10 from the Prohibition website.

Artifact; noun: an object that has been made by a person - especially one that is of historical interest.
Shadow Captain, the brainchild of Liverpool singer-songwriter Stuart Todd, is about to take a turn into the spotlight. Focusing on fourteen songs recorded across the last decade, the popular musician, along with longtime producer Andy Fernihough have gathered together a collection of music to carry into 2023 and beyond with the set Artifacts.
“Nostalgic and moving, this album is proof that everything old is new again...”- Americana UK
Starting the new Millennium with renowned guitarist Neil Campbell in the acoustic duo Campbell Todd, Stuart then fronted his own group The Freebies, before going on to play in Three Minute Hero and enjoying success as an award-winning promoter with Liverpool Acoustic. But, all the while, he was writing songs of poise, polish and protest that take on universal themes of love, loss and life, whilst always paying strict attention to melody and music. A songwriter’s songwriter, Shadow Captain is a gifted craftsman with an eye for the harsh nuances each day brings.
“Todd meters his lyrics well, leaving space between each line to absorb its meaning..”- FATEA Magazine
Tunes like the new single Home Is The Hero, the intimate and intricate 173 (Is Just A Number), the reggae groove-led The Room’s Too Bare and the sharp satire of Blond Boy Johnson all highlight Todd’s progression as a tunesmith, while Boys In The Bubble, A Piece Of The Action and Rip Off Britain point to his continuing incisiveness as the other side of society’s mirror.
